Getting Better

Things are getting better at the Perry house. Jared and Dwayne have both been home for a little while. Jared had a doctors appointment on Thursday. He had a hematoma on his hip and when they saw it they decided to admit him back into the hospital to have surgery to clean it out. Jared was not planning on spending another night in the hospital but luckily they let him come home Friday night. Dwayne is doing as well as can be expected. He has been able to go to school all day. Thanks to his little brother he was able to get his feeding tube out a little sooner than planned. We were hoping to have it out before school started this Monday and while I was picking Jared up at the hospital I got a call that Tyler had sat down next to Dwayne a little too hard and had landed on the feeding tube pulling it out about 8 inches. With the NJ tube it bypasses the stomach and so it can not be put back in without a specialists help. Because it had been pulled out so far, was a weekend, and we could not get a hold of his doctor we took it all the way out and he has been able to keep it out since. I wanted to thank my sister who was keeping this blog up to date and hopefully I will be able to keep everyone posted on the rest of the long recovery. Thank you to all that have been such a great support to us. We are forever gratefull for all of the prayers and donations that we have received.

http://perrygolf.blogspot.com/

Dear Community/Business Owner:

We represent a group of friends and co-workers organizing a fundraiser golf tournament for Jared and Dwayne Perry.

Jared and his son Dwayne were involved in an extremely serious motor vehicle accident on Highway 201, July 18th. They were transported to the University of Utah Medical Center in Critical condition, and they have both undergone several surgeries to repair the injuries sustained in the accident.

The good news is that they are finally out of the hospital; however, there is still a long road to full recovery. The Perry family has incurred tremendous costs from the medical treatment, and Jared will be unable to return to work for some time.

We are hosting a fundraising golf tournament at The Copper Club in Magna, on August 29, 2009. We are looking for both monetary donations for this event as well as prize items to be raffled off. All proceeds will go to the Perry family to be used for medical expenses as well as living expenses until Jared is able to return to work.

Thank you for your donation considerations in advance. If you have any questions, please contact Leonard Schwartz @ (801) 613-9052 or Travis Thorsen @ (801) 913-5304.

5th of August

Jared had his surgery and today everything is going pretty good. Hopefully his leg will heal fast so that he can go home. He really wants to get out of the hospital. Dwayne is doing pretty good. He still can't eat or drink any food and probably wont be able to for about two weeks. He is on feeding tubes but it has been hard for him because he sees everyone eating in front of him and he can't have any of it.

Today has been a better day. We found out that Jared will hopefully be having his surgery tomorrow. They also told us that he might be getting out of the ICU. He looked really yellow yesterday but he was talking and he looked really good. His kids were able to see him and that is always great. Dwayne is doing good. His brother and sister came to see him too. He was sitting up and talking with them and he looked as happy as he could. They haven't said when they will release him yet.

A little later......

07-28-2009
Tuesday was a day of milestones and set backs. Dwayne has made great progress over the last few days. He no longer has his neck brace on and he is now walking on a regular basis. He has boxes that he has to check off every time he gets up and walks. He had 6 boxes yesterday and he was able to fill them all in with smiley faces. Today he was able to visit his Father for the first time since the accident. Jared was extreemly happy to see his son. He told Michelle that he wanted to be able to give Dwayne a hug and have him lay next to him. Jared was scheduled to undergo surgery on his knee today but that operation was canceled due to his fever. Also the doctors found blood clots in his right arm and in his legs. They have not yet re-scheduled his surgery but we are hoping his fever will subside. The Doctors have him on Blood thiners and expect him to slowly recover from the blood clots. Dwayne should be released from the hospital as early as Wednesday this week, but will most likely be released later this week. Dwayne drew a picture for his Dad this week. On it are 2 horses and the caption above them states "When we get out of here we will be like 2 wild mustangs". Michelle continues to be strong and patient. She is always running back and forth to tend to both her Husband and Son. What an amazing person! The other day we were in the hospital and Dwayne started complaining about his neck brace and gertting upset. She was able to calm him down and make sure he was taken care of. We love you guys!!!!!!

July 28,2009

It has been a couple of days and Jared and Dwayne are doing better. Some exciting news about Dwayne is that he has been able to eat pudding! He is walking more. He has a goal chart on his whiteboard in his room and it has six boxs on it, he has to get out of bed and go walking six times a day. He has been doing great! Sunday night his Grandpa was in trouble with Dwayne because he had these balloons in his room and one of them had a hole in it and Grandpa started to suck the helium out and then he would talk and it made Dwayne laugh but then it made his stomach hurt. But Dwayne is full of Smiles. Jared on the other hand is making little progress. He has an infection in his arm that they think is from one of the pick lines and so he has had a fever. But some exciting news, today he is going in for surgery on his leg at one o'clock. He has still been in the ICU but they say maybe by next week he could be released. But we will see. We will write as soon as we hear how his surgery went.

July 25, 2009

Today was a better day. When we got to the hospital we went to Dwayne's room first and while we were there Dwayne was laughing and smiling and that was just great. That has been the first time i have seem him smile while we were there. We were telling him how he complained to the nurses about being dehydrated and how thirsty he was and thats all that he wanted was some water. Well today was the first time he was able to have water and he was so happy. Jared on the other hand is still in the ICU. He is still doing about the same from the last post. He has lost lot of weight so he doesn't look that great. We are hoping that he will improve here soon. But they still need lots of prayers. We also found out the Kenncott is doing a fund raiser for them on the 8th of August. They are doing a car show in grantsville. So that is great!!! Thank You!!!! We are so greatful to all those who have been such a great help to Michelle. Everyone who is watching Lexis and Tyler and all those who have watched after the animals or anyone that has come to the hospital or those that have donated money. I know that it has not gone unnoticed. We are greatful for everyone. THANK YOU!!!

Jared Perry Family Donation Account

We have set up an account for Jared and Dwayne to help cover the medical bills.
It's at Cyprus Credit Union under Jared Perry Family

24th of July

The last few days have flown by. Here are a few updates on Jared and Dwayne. Jared was able to eat food the other day only to throw it all up and have horrible stomach pains. They took him to do some CTC scans and found out that he has pancreatitis. So the doctors said no more food, no more water. They put tubes in his stomach to drain it and then also put a pick line in so they can feed him through that. But he is still in alot of pain. Also the doctors have said possibly next Thursday they can do surgury on his leg. Dwayne is doing better. He is able to get out of bed with help and go to the bathroom. Also his physical therpy has been helping and he is getting stronger and stonger everyday. Dwayne is so amazing. When the doctor or the nurse come in they ask how he is doing and he always tells them he is doing ok. He is one strong young man. Also an update on Michelle she is doing ok. She just hasn't been able to sleep much. It has been a week since the accident happened. We are so greatful that they both are ok and a live.

07/22/2009
Today was another day on the path to recovery for Jared and Dwayne. Jared was able to have food for the first time since the accident. Although Steak was not served as he had hoped. Jared was able to eat a few saltine crackers as well as some Jello. He was also able to drink water. Dwanye on the other hand has said more about food and water than his Dad but will not be able to eat or drink for a few more days. He has mentioned to the nurses on more than one occasion that "they are not keeping him as hydrated as he should be". He has however been making progress with his physical therapy. He was able to sit up with the assistance of his physical therapist. He then was able to walk a short distance on his own. He is a very strong young man and has not asked why this has happened to him, He has been possitive through this experience. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Perry family as they deal with this bump in the road of life. We also pray for the other families effected in the terrible accident.

Continued..

While crews tried to get Jared and Dwayne out of their vehicle there was also a crew trying hard to help those in the other vehicle. There were seven people in the other car and five of them died on the scene. One was taken to the hospital but passed away before they reached the hospital. The only survivor of the other car was a 4 year old boy. He was under the dashboard on the passanger side. Jared and Dwayne were both life flighted to the University Hospital and Primary Childrens Hospital. Both Jared and Dwayne sustained serious injuries. Dwayne was complaining about his stomach and as soon as they got to the hospital he was rushed into the ICU. They then found out after doing tests that Dwayne had internal bleeding that was caused from wearing his seat belt. They also found out that some of his other vital organs were also damaged. But that was just the beginning. They didn't even look at what happened to anything else because of the bleeding. They then took him and operated on him for a couple of hours to try and stop the bleeding. With prayers from Family and Friends the doctors where able to stop the bleeding. They then took him to do ex-rays to see if there was anything else wrong. After the results were in from the ex-rays they noticed that his back was broken. Luckily it was right in the middle of his spine. The doctors explained that the least damaging area to break your spine is in the middle. They were able to operate on his back Sunday afternoon and he has been working with his physical therapist for the last few days.
Jared on the other hand was not as lucky. Because of the location of his body at impact he shattered his right knee due to preasure applied to the brakes upon impact. He also broke his hip and broke his right wrist. Those were only the immediate findings. After he had surgery on his wrist and hip he complained of stomach pain. Upon further exploration the doctors were able to find that his spleen had been the cause of his pain. They removed his spleen on Tuesday morning and so far his stomach pain has declined. Doctors say that due to the excesive swelling of his knee they will be unable to perform surgery on it until late next week. Jarred remains in the ICU in the University Hospital.
They have not been able to comunicate with one another since the accident. Michelle has been constantly running to and from both hospitals.

Tragic Accident

It all started on saturday the 18th in the early hours of the morning. Jared and his family had been helping his sister Jamie move into their house, and if any of you know Jared you know that he would do anything for his family or those around him. When they had done all they could do that night they headed for home. Michelle his wonderful wife headed home first with Lexis and Tyler. Jared would leave soon after. Michelle called Jared when she got on to SR201 and asked where he was. He said that he was on bacchus and was not to far behind. Michelle didn't worry and just headed on her way. As Michelle was driving she got really tired and was debating on whether or not to pull over. By the time she got to the Stansbury exit to head to Grantsville she was really tired and something told her to pull over, and she was like no, but then it told her again to pull over. By this time she had pulled over and decided to call Jared back again but there was no answer. That was weird because she had just talked to him. So she waited and not two minutes later someone called her from Jareds phone, it was a man and he said "your husband and son have been in an accident you should get here as soon as you can." Michelle turned right around and got to the scene as fast as she could. She couldn't see which car was theirs because of how crumbled both cars were. By the time she got there Jared and Dwayne were still in the car. They were both talking and conscious. They were able to pull Dwayne out and put him on the strechter but they couldn't get Jared out of the car. They had to pull out the Jaws of Life and cut the passanger side out and then they pulled him through the passanger side of the car.
To be continued.....
