While crews tried to get Jared and Dwayne out of their vehicle there was also a crew trying hard to help those in the other vehicle. There were seven people in the other car and five of them died on the scene. One was taken to the hospital but passed away before they reached the hospital. The only survivor of the other car was a 4 year old boy. He was under the dashboard on the passanger side. Jared and Dwayne were both life flighted to the University Hospital and Primary Childrens Hospital. Both Jared and Dwayne sustained serious injuries. Dwayne was complaining about his stomach and as soon as they got to the hospital he was rushed into the ICU. They then found out after doing tests that Dwayne had internal bleeding that was caused from wearing his seat belt. They also found out that some of his other vital organs were also damaged. But that was just the beginning. They didn't even look at what happened to anything else because of the bleeding. They then took him and operated on him for a couple of hours to try and stop the bleeding. With prayers from Family and Friends the doctors where able to stop the bleeding. They then took him to do ex-rays to see if there was anything else wrong. After the results were in from the ex-rays they noticed that his back was broken. Luckily it was right in the middle of his spine. The doctors explained that the least damaging area to break your spine is in the middle. They were able to operate on his back Sunday afternoon and he has been working with his physical therapist for the last few days.
Jared on the other hand was not as lucky. Because of the location of his body at impact he shattered his right knee due to preasure applied to the brakes upon impact. He also broke his hip and broke his right wrist. Those were only the immediate findings. After he had surgery on his wrist and hip he complained of stomach pain. Upon further exploration the doctors were able to find that his spleen had been the cause of his pain. They removed his spleen on Tuesday morning and so far his stomach pain has declined. Doctors say that due to the excesive swelling of his knee they will be unable to perform surgery on it until late next week. Jarred remains in the ICU in the University Hospital.
They have not been able to comunicate with one another since the accident. Michelle has been constantly running to and from both hospitals.
